Bison Walk It Off In Extras To Stay Unbeaten

MANSFIELD, Texas — Oklahoma Baptist delivered late drama Friday afternoon, walking off Maryville in the bottom of the eighth for a 5–4 victory at the Fields at Station to remain perfect on the young season.

The Bison move to 4–0 after earning their second extra-inning win of the weekend.

OBU struck first in the opening inning as Kaley Cook singled, stole second, and came around to score on an RBI ground-rule double by Abby Laskowski to give the Bison a 1–0 lead. Kaylee Davis added to the advantage in the second with a solo home run to left, pushing the margin to 2–0.

Maryville responded in the third with back-to-back solo homers from Jenna Kosnoff and Laila Ruiz to even the score at 2–2. The Saints later took a 3–2 lead in the sixth on an RBI single, but Oklahoma Baptist answered in the bottom half when Nichelle Marshall singled to center to score Katelyn Kilgore.

After Maryville plated a run in the top of the eighth under the international tiebreaker, the Bison answered once again. Alexah Reyes opened the bottom half as the placed runner and moved to third on a Greenlee Wells single. Laskowski delivered a sacrifice fly to center to tie the game before Ally Ryan ended it moments later, lining a walk-off RBI single to left to score Wells and seal the 5–4 win.

Jaycee Shaffer earned the victory in the circle, striking out all three batters she faced in the top of the eighth. Jaycee Kelln started the game and worked seven solid innings, allowing four runs on nine hits while striking out nine.

Offensively, Wells went 2-for-4, while Ryan, Laskowski, Marshall, and Davis each drove in a run. Davis finished with a home run, and Cook added a hit and a stolen base as OBU collected nine hits on the day.

The Bison showed resilience throughout, answering every Maryville run and closing the game with timely execution in the extra frame.
They look to finish the weekend strong against Missouri Southern tomorrow at 1:30 pm.
