Jason Eaker announced the hiring of
MJ Smith as assistant coach on Thursday.
"We are excited to announce the hiring of MJ to our staff," Eaker said.
"His experiences and opportunities in leadership positions up until this point are an outstanding starting point to jump into this role and make an immediate impact for Bison Basketball. His work ethic, faith, character and family background all stood out in the interview process. We are thrilled to add him to our program."
Most recently, Smith spent two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kan. Smith helped coach three players who received All-Conference honors while one reached All-American status.
Last campaign in 2024-25, Southwestern produced an 18-11 record along with a trio of All-Conference performers.
Smith's playing days came at Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kan. He played three seasons and earned his Bachelor's in exercise science. On top of that, Smith earned his Master's in Sports Management just this past May.
