ADA -- Oklahoma Baptist (11-11, 6-2 GAC) split its doubleheader on Saturday, March 7, against East Central (12-7, 5-3 GAC). After losing to the Tigers 9-8 in the opener, the Bison bounced back and won game two, 7-5.
The Bison will wrap up the series against ECU on March 9 at 1 p.m.
GAME ONE
The game began 1-1 and after two innings of play, the Bison cracked the game open with three runs in the top of the third frame. That included a two-run home run by
Morgan Max.
East Central responded though, driving in a combined five runs in the third and fourth innings.
The green and gold didn't take long to fight back. Fueled by a triple from
Kaley Cook and a two-run shot from
Sammie Greene in the fifth, OBU took a 7-6 lead that frame.
Later, an RBI single from freshman
Nichelle Marshall in the sixth moved the scoreboard to 8-6 Bison.
The Tigers, however, weren't quite done yet. After scoring two runs in the home half of the sixth, and keeping the Bison scoreless in the top of the seventh, Emily Bingham hit a walk-off single up the middle for the ECU win.
GAME TWO
OBU started off hot with three runs in the top of the first starting with a Haley Hacker solo shot to right field.
After a quick second frame, the Bison scored again in the third pushing the lead to 4-0 after Max scored on an infield error. However, the Tigers pushed back in the bottom of the third. In that inning, Amiah Galgatcher provided an RBI single while Caton Muncy's sacrifice bunt plated Elyse LeClair. At that point, it was 4-2.
Following uneventful fourth and fifth innings the Bison hit their stride at the plate in the top of the sixth. There was a two-run double provided by Cook and run-scoring single from Hacker. Those boosted the OBU lead to 7-2.
East Central tried to rally in the bottom of the seventh scoring three runs with one out. But it was too little too late as the Bison closed out the game with
Jaycee Shaffer earning the save.
