Henderson State Holds Off Bison, 76-70

FORT SMITH, Ark. -- Henderson State built a big enough lead to eventually secure a 76-70 Great American Conference win over Oklahoma Baptist at Southside Arena on Friday. The Reddies' balanced offensive attack and strong first-half performance proved crucial in holding off a late surge by the Bison.

HSU (17-12) jumped out to an early lead behind the hot shooting of Rondae Hill, who finished with a game-high 25 points, including seven 3-pointers. The Reddies shot an impressive 54.2 percent from the field in the first half, including an 8-of-15 clip from beyond the arc. At one point, they led 30-9 and by halftime, held an 11-point, 43-32 edge.  For Oklahoma Baptist, while it shot 46 percent overall in the first half, they struggled from deep (2-for-7).

Oklahoma Baptist found their rhythm in the second half, outscoring Henderson State 38-33. Led by Terry Coner Jr.'s 20 points and six steals, the Bison chipped away at the deficit, closing the gap to just three points with under eight minutes remaining. Ricky Brown (12 points) and Daniel Ransom (12 points) provided key contributions, while the team's bench outscored Henderson State's 25-12.

Despite OBU's push, the Reddies maintained their composure. Tim McDonald added 11 points and seven rebounds, while Nehikhare Igiehon dominated inside with 18 points and seven boards.

Down the stretch, and leading by four, clutch free throws from Hill in the final seconds sealed the win as Henderson State moved into the semifinal round of the tournament.

With the loss, the Bison ended their season with an 18-11 record.
