Shaffer’s Complete-Game Shutout Leads OBU

DURANT -- Oklahoma Baptist rode a dominant pitching performance from Jaycee Shaffer to a 4-0 victory over Southeastern Oklahoma State on Sunday. The win improved the Bison to 22-14 on the season and 15-5 in the Great American Conference.

Shaffer (12-2) was nearly untouchable in the circle, tossing a complete-game shutout while scattering eight hits and striking out three. She worked efficiently, throwing 110 pitches and stranding 10 Southeastern runners.

The Bison offense got on the board in the second inning when Nichelle Marshall's sacrifice fly brought home Ally Ryan for a 1-0 lead. OBU added another run in the fourth when Kaylee Davis doubled down the left-field line, scoring Abby Laskowski to make it 2-0.
A two-run fifth frame provided insurance for the visitors. Greenlee Wells set the table with an RBI double before Marshall followed with a groundout that plated Meghan Roberts, extending the lead to 4-0.

SE had chances to get on the scoreboard in the sixth and seventh frames, tallying four hits in the latter innings. However, Shaffer and company got a few ground-ball outs and kept the hosts from stringing together runs late in the contest.

Sami Edwards and Kinsley Simmons each had multi-hit games to lead the Savage Storm while OBU's Kaley Cook had two hits with two stolen bases. Marshall ended up with a team-high two RBI.

The Bison will return to action next weekend (April 4-5) in Alva against Northwestern Oklahoma State.
