DURANT – Southeastern Oklahoma State won both games over Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday, earning 4-2 and 7-3 wins over the Bison. The wins halted OBU's 24 straight Great American Conference series victories dating back to March of 2023.
GAME ONE
Southeastern secured a 4-2 win over Oklahoma Baptist in a competitive softball matchup. The Savage Storm capitalized on early offensive production and a strong pitching performance by Emily Simmons to seal the victory.
SE struck first in the second frame when Izzy McMurray launched a solo home run to left field. The Storm extended their lead in the third, with Simmons delivering a three-run homer to center, scoring Sarah Sands and Aubrey Kennedy. That blast made it 4-0.
Oklahoma Baptist responded in the fourth when
Morgan Max blasted a two-run homer to left-center, cutting the deficit to 4-2. Despite their efforts, the Bison struggled against Simmons, who allowed just two hits and one earned run over seven innings. She also struck out three.
Jaycee Shaffer took the loss for OBU, surrendering four runs on five hits across six innings.
Despite loading the bases in the seventh, Oklahoma Baptist couldn't capitalize, as Southeastern's defense shut the door to secure the win.
GAME TWO
SE's India McMurray provided a first-inning, three-run homer as the hosts never trailed during game two.
The green and gold did respond with homers by
Greenlee Wells and
Kaley Cook with the latter tying the game at 3-3 in the third.
However, the Savage Storm and their defense shut out the Bison the rest of the way. In fact, the only scoring threat OBU produced was from Wells who tripled in the sixth.
Offensively, Southeastern scored the final four runs of the game. In the third, Simmons cranked a two-run homer before Iliana Olivares added an RBI single a frame later. After four frames, SE led 6-3 and they would add another run courtesy of Kennedy Morgan's run-scoring single in the fifth.
Tomorrow, the teams will meet for the series finale at 1 p.m.
