WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Bison Baseball went 1-1 on the day after dropping Game 2 and holding the Bulldogs scoreless in the third game, claiming the series over Southwestern Oklahoma.
Oklahoma Baptist finished the day at .500 with a win to close out the series after a tough start to the day.
Game 2
In the first game of the day, the Bison totaled five runs on six hits with four errors. OBU tallied four RBI, one stolen base, and three doubles.
Braden Smith led the Bison in RBI with a pair on the day, going 1-4 at the plate with a triple to his lone hack. Smith added the single stolen base for the Bison in Game 2.
Keenan Morris and
Jesse Tisdell each added a single RBI for the green and gold.
Morris went 2-3 at the plate with a pair of doubles in the first game. Tisdell went 1-4 in the box.
Ryan Turbeville got the start with 6.0 innings on the mound, giving up three earned runs on six hits, walking a pair and striking out a couple.
Logan Kimbro came in as a reliever for 0.1 inning giving up two runs on one hit.
William Ellis (L, 1-2) was dealt the loss after 1.2 innings on the bump, giving up three runs, one earned, on three hits. Ellis also walked one batter and compiled four strikeouts.
Each team tallied three runs in the second inning to keep things even early on. The Bison were next to strike with one run coming across in the fifth. The seventh inning welcomed one across for OBU and two for SWOSU. In the eighth inning, the Bulldogs sealed the deal with a trio of runs for an 8-5 final in favor of the home team.
Game 3
A tough start for OBU saw Game 3 serve as the rubber match. The series finale ended in favor of the green and gold with a 3-0 shutout in seven innings of play.
Austin Gonzales was the star of Game 3 with a two-run homer to put the Bison on the board in the second inning. Gonzales continued to make moves at the plate after a full count fell in his favor with the bases loaded, bringing in the third and final run for OBU. Gonzales tallied three RBI to close out the day going 1-2 at the plate.
The homer from Gonzales makes 15 homeruns on the week for OBU Baseball.
DJ Van Atten and
Lucas Schaefer contributed to the OBU offensive efforts with a pair of doubles. Van Atten and
Matt Marsic stole a bag each to tally two in Game 3 for the Bison.
Bryant Thornton (W, 3-1) was awarded the win after 4.0 innings on the mound, giving up no runs on three hits, walking one batter and striking out two.
Marcus Peter came in to close for the Bison with 3.0 innings thrown, giving up no runs on no hits, walking two and striking out a couple.
Next on the schedule for the green and gold is a midweek meeting with Arkansas- Fort Smith. Tuesday's action will see a 5 p.m. first pitch in Ford Park in Shawnee.
