DENTON, Tx – Bison Softball takes both midweek games over Texas Women's.
In the doubleheader with the Pioneers, the green and gold overpowered the home team in Game 1 with a 7-5 final and claimed the second game as well with a 13-7 final.
Game 1
In the opening game of the evening, the Bison totaled seven runs on 13 hits with no errors. The green and gold totaled two homers, one double, four stolen bases, on double play, six RBI, and left eight runners on base.
Sammie Greene took control offensively claiming both homeruns for OBU in the first game totaling four RBI and going 2-4 at the plate. This is the third time this season Greene has tallied multiple homeruns in a game for the Bison.
Greenlee Wells had the lone double for OBU, marking her seventh double this season. Wells totaled two RBI, finishing the first game at 3-4 at the plate.
Jaycee Shaffer (W, 10-1) got the start and the win for the Bison, earning her 10
th victory of the season in 5.2 inning pitched. Shaffer gave up five earned runs on seven hits, walking three batters and striking out four.
Morgan Max (S,1) got the save with 1.1 innings on the bump, giving up no runs, one hit, no walks and totaling one strikeout.
Game 2
The OBU offense did not let up, totaling three homeruns and a 13-7 final for Game 2.
The green and gold compiled 13 runs on 15 hits with two errors. The Bison finished the evening with three home runs, two doubles, three stolen bases.
Oklahoma Baptist was first on the board with one run coming across in the opening frame. After the second inning went scoreless across the board, the Pioneers finally made their mark with a solo run coming across. The top of the fourth welcomed four more runs for the Bison and a trio of runs for the home team. In the top of the fifth stanza the Bison added three more runs while the bottom of the inning saw another solo run added for TWU. The sixth inning went scoreless but the biggest inning for the green and gold was yet to come. In the top of the seventh, the Bison totaled five more runs to bring the final score to 13 for OBU. The Pioneers tacked on another pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh but were unable to keep the offense alive, closing out their night with seven runs scored.
Nichelle Marshall led the green and gold with two home runs, claiming her first collegiate bomb in a big way. Marshall totaled five RBI and went 3-4 at the plate with two runs scored.
Morgan Max had the other homer for OBU, also contributing five RBI, going 2-5 at the plate and scoring one run.
Kaley Cook and
Greenlee Wells each added a double for the Bison.
Sammie Greene totaled three stolen bases in Game 2.
Jorja Barrett (W, 5-4) got the win for OBU in the second game with 5.0 innings on the bump, giving up five runs (three earned) on nine hits, walking three and striking out three. Max (S,3) got the save with 2.0 innings pitched, giving up two earned runs on five this, walking one and striking out two.
Up next for the Bison is another weekend of conference action as Oklahoma Baptist hosts Ouachita Baptist for a three-game series beginning Friday. The first day of play with see a 6 p.m. first pitch. Saturday's slate will consist of a doubleheader beginning at noon with the series finale to follow.
