DURANT– Oklahoma Baptist controlled the game from start to finish, securing an 81-65 road win over Southeastern Oklahoma State on Thursday at Bloomer Sullivan Arena. The Bison improved to 17-10 overall and 14-7 in Great American Conference play, while the Savage Storm dropped to 10-17 (8-13 GAC).
For OBU, it was their first win at SE since January of 2021.
Oklahoma Baptist set the tone early, jumping out to a 26-14 lead by the 12:42 mark of the first. The green and gold were highly efficient, making 51.5 percent in the first half. That helped the visitors lead 43-27 at the break. As for the Savage Storm, they made just 32 percent of their shots in the opening 20 minutes.
Leading the way for OBU was
JC Curry, who stuffed the stat sheet with 18 points, eight rebounds, and three steals.
Daniel Ransom was a strong presence scoring 17 points and nine rebounds. Plus,
Joshua Udoumoh, filling in for the injured
Terry Coner Jr., provided a spark with 14 points and eight rebounds on 5-of-6 shooting.
Ricky Brown also contributed with 12 points, including two 3-pointers.
Southeastern struggled to find rhythm throughout the game, due in large part to the Bison's man-on-man defense. Despite a stronger second-half effort, where they matched the Bison with 38 points apiece, the early deficit proved too much to overcome. Robert Briley led the Savage Storm with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Landon Condiff contributed 13 points with three 3-pointers.
The Bison capitalized on their dominance in the paint, outscoring Southeastern 34-26 down low. They also forced 10 turnovers and turned them into 13 points, keeping the Savage Storm from gaining momentum.
On Saturday, March 1, Oklahoma Baptist, which is currently tied with Harding for third place in the standings, closes its regular season with a 7:30 p.m. game against East Central.
