Bison Roll to Doubleheader Sweep over Monticello

MONTICELLO, Ark.  – Greenlee Wells hit homers in both games and Jaycee Shaffer was superb again as Oklahoma Baptist swept Arkansas-Monticello in a Great American Conference doubleheader on Saturday. The Bison won game one 5-0 before a 10-5 triumph in the second contest.

With the victories, OBU improved to 7-7 and 2-0 in the GAC.

GAME ONE
Shaffer matched her career-high with 12 strikeouts as she earned her second shutout of the season. The junior also induced a combined eight groundouts and fly-ball outs and didn't allow a single run.

Offensively, the Bison got all the run support they needed in the fourth. With two away, Wells belted her third homer of the season to break the scoreless tie and move the scoreboard to 2-0.

Wells also added a run-scoring infield single in the sixth for the team's third run. To cap off the scoring, Kaley Cook scored on a UAM error while Sammie Greene's seventh-inning double to center plated Haley Hacker for OBU's fifth run.

GAME TWO
The green and gold built a whopping 9-0 lead en route to a 10-5 win during the second contest.

First-inning highlights included an RBI double from Wells and run-scoring groundout by freshman Nichelle Marshall.

Two frames later, Wells blasted another bomb, this one a three-run shot that plated Ally Ryan and Morgan Max. At that point, OBU led 8-0.

There was a little bit of trouble defensively as UAM's Maddie Pfleging hit a pair of two-run homers in the fourth and sixth innings. However, OBU's defense didn't break and secured the necessary outs to close the game out.

By game's end, Wells, Max and Greene each collected multiple hits while Wells drove in four. Defensively, Hailey Stanford tallied a team-high five putouts while Marshall added four.

Tomorrow, OBU and UAM will close its series with a single game at 12 p.m.
