MONTICELLO, Ark. – Oklahoma Baptist (8-7, 3-0 GAC) scored nine unanswered runs during an 11-1, run-rule victory over Arkansas-Monticello on Sunday.
The Bison jumped ahead early as
Sammie Greene launched a two-run home run in the first, setting the tone for the game. Arkansas-Monticello answered with a solo shot from Dacie Sexton in the bottom half, but that would be the only run the Blossoms could muster against dominant pitching from
Jaycee Shaffer (5-0).
The third inning proved decisive as OBU exploded for seven runs.
Morgan Max crushed a two-run homer, followed by a two-run blast from
Greenlee Wells. For Wells, that was her third homer in as many games.
Kaley Cook later tripled, driving in two more runs before fellow freshman
Haley Hacker capped the rally with an RBI groundout, giving the Bison a commanding 9-1 lead.
Shaffer continued to stifle the UAM offense, finishing with five strikeouts while allowing just one earned run on five hits in 5.0 innings of work.
In the fourth, the green and gold tacked on another run with an RBI double from
Hailey Stanford. The final run came in the fifth when Max doubled to bring home Greene, sealing the 11-1 victory.
The Bison racked up 12 hits, with Greene leading the charge, going 4-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and three runs scored. Max contributed with a homer, double and three RBI.
Arkansas-Monticello struggled offensively, managing just five hits while committing two errors.
Oklahoma Baptist looks to keep their momentum going next weekend when it hosts Southwestern Oklahoma State on Feb. 28 and March 1.
