Shaffer’s Performance Helps Bison Split at FireLake

SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist's Jaycee Shaffer fanned a career-high 12 as the Bison defeated Fort Hays State 2-0 on Friday at FireLake Ball Park.

After that win, OBU fell to Washburn 10-1 to move its record to 5-7.

GAME ONE
Shaffer was sensational in the circle on Friday morning. Along with her 12 strikeouts, she allowed just three hits and also got a combined eight ground-ball and fly-ball outs.

With OBU's junior pitcher dealing, the green and gold found a late-inning bomb from transfer Greenlee Wells to secure victory.

There were two outs in the bottom of the sixth. Wells lifted a ball to left field and the wind carried it just inside the foul pole for the game's only runs. That was one of five hits for the Bison.

GAME TWO
Some errors and some unfortunate bounces helped pave the way for a massive 10-1 win for Washburn over the Bison.

That shown through in the second when the MIAA school plated six runs. Two of those were off bases-loaded walks while another came via hit-by-pitch. The Ichabods tallied just three hits that frame.

For OBU, Morgan Max provided the team's lone run with a run-scoring single in the third.

The Bison's defense struggled on this day, erring a season-high four times. Offensively, freshman Kaley Cook led the team with two hits.

Next weekend, the Bison go to Arkansas-Monticello for their Great American Conference opener on Feb. 21-22.
