SHAWNEE – Bison Women's Basketball came up short in a hard-fought battle against the conference leader, Southern Nazarene.
The ladies in green and gold hosted the Crimson Storm for a Thursday night showdown in Noble. A tough four-point loss for OBU landed the final in favor of SNU at 58-54.
A very low scoring first quarter saw the Crimson Storm leading, 12-8. The following quarter saw OBU tack on 13 points to SNU's 17 totaling a 29-21 score headed into halftime. The third stanza saw a similar outcome with another 17 points for the visitors and 14 for the Bison. The final frame saw the green and gold buckle down, with 19 points in the fourth to SNU's 12. The 58-54 final sat in favor of the Crimson Storm.
OBU totaled 14 bench points, 15 fast break points, 18 points off turnovers and 12 points in the paint. The green and gold tallied 16 steals, eight blocks, eight assists and 28 rebounds. The Bison shot 29.8% from the field, 27.3% from the three and 20-22 from the line.
Payten Conde had a phenomenal night, earning a new career high of 18 points to lead the OBU scoring efforts for the night. Conde went 4-4 from the field, 3-3 from the three and 7-8 from the line with four rebounds, one assist and three steals.
Allie Rehl also had a good night offensively going 2-2 from the field, 1-1 from the three and 4-4 from the line. The freshman totaled three rebounds, two steals and nine points.
Sierra Copeland had another great night defensively with six steals, two blocks and six rebounds.
Next up for OBU is a trip to Alva to face the Rangers of Northwestern Oklahoma State University Saturday at 1 p.m.
