Bison to Open GAC Play in Arkansas

SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist (4-2) heads to Arkansas-Monticello (5-1) and Southern Arkansas on Dec. 4 and 6, respectively, for the start of Great American Conference play.

OBU has won eight in a row against the Cotton Blossoms and leads that series 12-6. As for the matchup with Southern Arkansas, the Bison lead 10-8. In the last four contests, each team was one twice and each game has been decided by single digits.

The Bison Sports Network crew of Todd Miller and Dave Myrick will be on the call of the games on KGFF. Below you'll find notes on the three squads.

Bison Notes
  • OBU finally had a tough game offensively, losing at St. Mary's 50-44. Included in that was a five-point fourth quarter.
  • Senior Jaedyn Getman was held to eight points, a season low. She still ranks second in the country with a 25.8 scoring average.
  • Getman also ranks sixth in the nation in three-point percentage (56.0) and No. 15 with 37 made free throws.
  • As a team, OBU has several high-quality marks. They rank fourth in free throw percentage (82.7) and 23rd in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.10).
  • Furthermore, the Bison are No. 5 nationally and tops in the GAC committing 11.5 turnovers per game.
  • Katelyn Davis and Parker Stevenson each have sunk nine 3-pointers this season. That ranks them 13th in the GAC in that category.
  • Guard Brenna Butler rounds out the top statistical leaders for OBU. Her 3.2 assists average is eighth in the conference.
Cotton Blossoms Notes
  • UAM is off to a great start, boasting a 5-1 record. Though, two of their wins were against NAIA competition.
  • Defense has been the key for the Blossoms. They give up 47.7 point per game. That's the No. 1 total in Division II.
  • Plus, Monticello checks in at No. 19 in defensive rebounds per game (30.5). Lastly, UAM is No. 12 in field-goal percentage defense (31.7).
  • Alindsey Long is fifth in the GAC with a 14.7 scoring average. She's also fourth with a. 50-percent conversion rate from downtown.
  • Teammate Harper Briley is doing a fine job rebounding. Her 40 rebounds are slotted seventh in the league while her 5.5 defensive rebounds per game is fifth.
  • Along the free throw line, Alyssa Batton has made 26 freebies, the No. 5 total in the GAC.
Muleriders Notes
  • SAU is 4-2 and is coming off a monster 91-35 win over Christian Brothers on Nov. 25.
  • Like Monticello, the Muleriders have a pretty good defense. They rank 78th out of 290 D2 teams in points allowed (60.2).
  • They also are No. 27 in field goal percentage defense (33.5) and 35th in defensive rebounds per contest (29.2).
  • Offensively, SAU checks in at No. 17 in Division II with a 1.18 assist-to-turnover ratio.
  • Individually, Marlee Bright is the GAC leader and ranks 27th in D2 with 30 assists. She dishes out 5.0 assists per game, another top GAC mark.
  • Blythe Crawley makes 3.0 three-pointers per game, the No. 15 total in the land while Elena Lijo-Rodriguez's two double-doubles is 27th in the nation.
