Road Trip to San Antonio Coming For OBU

SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist (3-1) is traveling down to San Antonio, Texas for the third straight season to face Texas A&M Kingsville and St. Mary's. On Friday, Nov. 28, the Bison play the Javelinas before a Nov. 29 contests versus the Rattlers.

OBU has a 1-1 record against each of these teams over the previous two seasons. Below are notes on the three teams.

At The Top: Senior Jaedyn Getman's last season on Bison Hill is off to a fabulous start. Her 28.8 scoring average is the national high and she's slotted 15th with a 96.7 percent free throw mark. Getman also has made 3.0 threes per game, the 22nd-best total in the nation.

Maximizing Opportunities: OBU is doing a pretty good job in limiting its turnovers. In fact, the green and gold rank 22nd in the nation giving up just 13.3 turnovers per game.

Three-Point Threats: The team's current 9.3 makes from deep per game is the 16th-best total in Division II. Getman leads the way with 12 long shots this winter while Parker Stevenson and Katelyn Davis have each tallied seven 3-point makes for the Bison.

Don't Put Them on the Line: Through four games, OBU is the GAC leader and ranks third nationally at the free throw line, converting at an 82.7 percent clip. After Getman (96.7%), Stevenson has made 9-of-10 while Brenna Butler is 7-of-8 (87.5%).

Scouting Kingsville: The Javelinas are 0-2 to start the season. Their offense is ranked 288th out of 290 D2 schools in scoring (42.5). They are also making 33.3 percent of their shots, a mark that's 264th in the country. Furthermore, TAMUK has been abysmal from downtown, hitting just 21 percent from beyond the arc. That's slotted 259th in DII. No Javelina player is averaging double-figure scoring. TAMUK's best option so far is Justine Aguilar who averages 9.5 points per game.

Scouting St. Mary's: The Rattlers are 3-0 this early season. They do a good job defensively, limiting teams to 57.7 points per game. That total is 60th in D2. Plus, St. Mary's 5.0 blocks per game checks in at No. 17. Offensively, they score 60.3 points per game. That's slotted 216th in the nation. Raynne Malik ranks 15th in the country with 2.67 blocks per game while teammate Andrea Montesinos is slotted 11th in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.67). Allie Garcia leads the team in scoring (11.7) while Malik has a team-high 30 rebounds.
