Savage Storm Spoil Homecoming for OBU

SHAWNEE -- Southeastern Oklahoma State rallied from a 10-point deficit to earn a 14-10 win over Oklahoma Baptist on a rainy Saturday night at Crain Family Stadium. The Savage Storm leaned on a dominant ground game, outgaining the Bison 339-46 on the ground while controlling possession for more than 37 minutes.

Oklahoma Baptist (2-6, 2-6 GAC) struck first when Deuce Wise powered in from 16 yards out midway through the first quarter. That came after a muffed punt by the visitors.

Kicker Carter Lowry added a 49-yard field goal early in the second, giving OBU a 10-0 advantage at halftime. Those points came directly after another Southeastern turnover as well. Several plays prior to Lowry's kick, Caleb Giles forced a fumble which was recovered by Chase Whitebear, who recovered the muffed punt earlier.

Southeastern (4-4, 4-4 GAC) found its spark after the break. Kameron Lockhart broke free for a 67-yard touchdown run late in the third, cutting the deficit to 10-7. The Storm's defense held firm, forcing punts and a key interception by Kamron Fields in the fourth quarter.

With 11:03 remaining, Southeastern capped a 14-play, 85-yard drive when Donovan Shannon plunged in from a yard out to give the Storm their first lead. Sparking that drive was a fake punt that SE converted for 36 yards.

From there, the defense sealed it—William Billings and De'Angelo Shanks combined for two sacks, while Fields' interception helped the visitors too.

Lockhart led all rushers with 143 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries, while Shannon added 86 yards and the go-ahead score. Quarterback Luke Hohenberger threw for 68 yards. OBU quarterback Brady Bricker passed for 152 yards, connecting with Jake Parry and Matthew Young for a combined 129 receiving yards.

Despite being held scoreless after halftime, the Bison moved the ball late but saw their final drive end on a fourth-down sack at the SE 15-yard line.

Next week, the Bison will head to second-ranked Harding (8-0) on Nov. 1 at 3 p.m.
