Bison Stay Perfect in GAC with Sweep of East Central

SHAWNEE- Oklahoma Baptist volleyball continued their undefeated run in Great American Conference play, sweeping East Central in straight sets (25-15, 25-21, 25-20) on Thursday. With the win, the Bison move to an undefeated 5-0 in GAC play and 13-4 overall.

The Bison came out hot, starting the first set with a seven-point scoring run behind the serving of Emily Boyer. Defensively, libero Karsyn Hunter anchored the back row, keeping ECU to a .032 hitting percentage in the opening frame.

After a dominant first set, the Tigers fought back in the second. The Bison responded with grit and steady execution. OBU's consistent offense paired with strong defense kept ECU from gaining momentum. Timely kills and smart decision making at the net allowed the Bison to pull away with the victory.

With a slow start to the third set, the Bison found momentum after a successful challenge midway through the frame. The call swung energy back to OBU, sparking an eight-point scoring run that ECU couldn't match, allowing the Bison to pull away and secure the sweep.

The Bison controlled much of the match behind an efficient offense, hitting .207 overall compared to ECU's .067. The Bison tallied 40 kills, 61 digs and three aces.

Allie Stricker powered the Bison with 13 kills on a .263 hitting percentage. Rylee Unruh added eight kills and led the team with 16 digs. Lauren Safrit and Mackenzie Frazee both contributed six kills.

Boyer orchestrated the attack with 17 assists, also adding six digs. Freshman Madi Barnes chipped in 14 assists and eight digs.

At the net, OBU registered eight total blocks, led by Frazee's four block assists.

OBU's depth was on display as several reserves saw extended playing time. Sophomore Melody Donegan hit .400 with four kills. Freshman Addison Dale registered three digs while freshman Ellie Gehrke registered one dig.

With the win, OBU stays unbeaten in conference play. The Bison return to action on Friday, Oct. 10, against Harding in Searcy, Arkansas.
