Crimson Storm Notches Road Win over OBU

SHAWNEE — Despite holding a 24-9 shots advantage, Oklahoma Baptist couldn't break through in a 2-0 loss to Southern Nazarene on Wednesday at the OBU Soccer Complex.

Nine of those Bison (1-7-4, 1-4-1 GAC) attempts were on target, but SNU goalie Gianna Bonnett stood tall with nine saves to preserve the shutout. As the match progressed, the vast majority of OBU's shots came outside the 18, giving Bonnett good time to react.

OBU controlled much of the second stanza, outshooting the Crimson Storm 17-4, but two SNU goals—one in each period—proved to be the difference.

Southern Nazarene (4-7-1, 2-4-0) opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when Sam Smith's header reached the upper middle of the net after a corner kick by Gabriella Ponce. After halftime, the Storm extended their lead in the 64th minute.

After Ella Adams' header was saved to the right post, the GAC's leading scorer Bella Morgas finished it off to boost the visitor's advantage to 2-0. That was Morgas' eighth goal of 2025.

For OBU, Sam Sheffield led the attack with five shots—three on goal—including one in the 62nd minute that was saved by a quick-reacting Bonnett to the right side. Addison Gray, Hali White and Camden Ocheskey each added three attempts. Goalkeeper Jalen Cramer made three saves while facing 10 shots from the Storm.

OBU held advantages in total shots (24-10) and corner kicks (4-3) but couldn't capitalize on several chances, including four attempts in the final eight minutes of action.

The Bison will look to rebound when they travel for their next Great American Conference matchup this Saturday at Northwestern Oklahoma State.
