ADA -- Oklahoma Baptist rallied twice but settled for a 2–2 draw against East Central on Saturday morning at Tiger Field. The Bison moved to 1–6–4 overall and 1–3–1 in Great American Conference play, while the Tigers (0-10-2) earned their second tie of the season.
East Central struck first in the 42nd minute when Emily Cavazos finished a feed from Ximena Resendiz to give the hosts a 1–0 edge. However, Oklahoma Baptist wasted no time answering after the break. Just 25 seconds into the second half,
Tiare Hermosilla netted the equalizer to make it 1–1.
OBU continued to press and took the lead in the 74th minute.
Maya Thornburg capitalized on a pass from
Ashley Bell to push the Bison ahead 2–1. But ECU responded in the 79th when Dylan LaMonica scored off an assist from Madison Martinez, leveling the match once again.
The Bison outshot the Tigers 27–15 and held a 5–0 advantage in corner kicks but couldn't find a late winner. Hermosilla led OBU with six shots and two on goal, while
Addison Gray added four shots on frame off the bench. Goalkeeper
Jalen Cramer recorded seven saves.
For East Central, Mayhall made eight saves to preserve the draw, as both teams traded momentum throughout a physical second half that saw five yellow cards issued.
Oklahoma Baptist returns home next week, Oct. 15 at 6 p.m. against Southern Nazarene.
