ALVA -- In a gritty match at the Alva Rec Complex, Oklahoma Baptist and Northwestern Oklahoma battled to a 0-0 draw on Saturday. Both defenses were on full display, with neither team able to break through for a goal despite generating several chances.
Oklahoma Baptist led the match in shots, tallying 13, with seven on target. Midfielder
Lex Williamson was a constant threat, firing six times, including four on goal, but Northwestern Oklahoma's goalkeeper, Rachel Brown, was up to the task, making seven saves.
Alanna Bloomingdale and
Sam Sheffield also generated on-target attempts.
Northwestern Oklahoma registered 10 shots of their own, with six of those on target. The best chances for the Rangers came from forwards Isabella McMillan and Jazlyn Norwood, but Oklahoma Baptist's goalkeeper,
Claire Stoermer, was sharp, stopping all six shots that came her way. Stoermer's calm presence at the back kept the Bison organized, ensuring they maintained their clean sheet. She earned her second shutout of the season in the process.
Both teams pressed for a winner in the final minutes. The Bison earned the best chance with a corner in the 88th minute, leading to a close-range effort from Williamson. That attempt, though, was once again denied by Brown.
The draw leaves Oklahoma Baptist at 2-3-2 overall and 1-0-1 in GAC play, while Northwestern Oklahoma moves to 2-4-2 overall and 0-1-1 in conference.
OBU will return home on Oct. 2 at 6 p.m. when it hosts East Central.
