OBU Volleyball continues road stint with trip to Southwestern Oklahoma State for conference match Tuesday

SHAWNEE – The Bison are headed west for a midweek meeting with the Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State at 6 p.m. Tuesday evening.

The green and gold will face SWOSU for their second conference match of the 2024 season. After wrapping up the weekend at the UCO/SNU Tournament, the Bison are 7-7 overall.

Bison Notes
  • OBU Volleyball is headed into the evening matchup with the Bulldogs after taking down Arkansas Fort Smith in a five-set battle. The Bison ended their most recent tournament run 2-2. 
  • In the opening round of conference play, OBU hosted Southeastern Oklahoma State. The Storm pulled off a five-set upset, leaving the Bison 0-1 in conference play prior to the meeting with SWOSU.
  • Karsyn Hunter was the first lady in green and gold to secure a conference weekly honor. Hunter was named GAC Defensive Player of the Week after the first week of play with an incredible performance as the libero for OBU.
  • Head Coach, Anna Howle, recently secured her 400th win. In the OBU Fall Invitational, the Bison took the McKendree University Bearcats to five sets, securing a monumental win for Coach Howle at home in Noble.
  • In the Preseason Poll, OBU Volleyball was picked to finish first in the GAC after sharing the regular season title and winning the conference tournament to claim the 2023 GAC Championship title.
  • The green and gold lead the GAC in digs with 814 total digs, sitting in fourth in digs per set at 16.28. Bison Volleyball is ranked third in the conference in assists with 565 total assists, averaging 11.30 assists per set. OBU also holds the second most total kills in the conference with 618, placing third in kills per set at 12.36.
  • Jill Leslie leads the conference in points at 167.5 points and is tied for fifth best hitting percentage in the conference at .331. Emily Boyer leads the GAC with 486 assists, with the third best average at 9.72 assists per set. Hunter is tied for second most digs in the conference with 231 for the fourth best average in the GAC at 4.62 digs per set.
 
 
Bulldog Notes
  • SWOSU Volleyball was picked to finish second in the GAC in the Preseason Coaches' Poll.
  • The Bulldogs are 4-5 overall. The match against the Bison will serve as the first conference game for SWOSU. 
  • SWOSU finished the 2023 season with a 19-9 overall record and 12-4 in conference play.
  • The Bulldogs will return 14 athletes from the 2023 season including three all-conference players, one First Team All-GAC player, one Second Team All-GAC member, one All-Region player and the 2023 GAC Freshman of the Year, Jada Permeter.
