Shields, Bison Torch RiverHawks

TAHLEQUAH – Troy Shields hit three homers and recorded a D2 school-record nine RBI during Oklahoma Baptist's 17-5 win at Northeastern State on Tuesday. With the win, OBU improved to 28-18.

Key Leaders
  • Shields became the sixth Bison since 2019 to record three homers in a game. A year ago, he reached the same total versus Emporia State on April 18. As for his RBI total, there were four previous occasions of OBU players recording eight RBI, most recently from Kade Self against East Central during the 2022 season.
  • Isiah Lissade went 4-for-5 with three runs scored.
  • Jayden Shafer, Gabe Irwin and Camron Grant each recorded two hits.
  • Rounding out the top offensive performers, Alex Schroeder and Jaden Wiley each drove in two.
  • On the mound, Logan Kimbro struck out three in 3.0 innings pitched.
  • Cameron Pool got the win, tossing a scoreless sixth. It was his sixth win in 2024.
What Went Right
  • Another strong start. For the fourth straight game, OBU scored first. Schroeder provided an RBI single before Shields hit a two-run bomb to right. An inning later, Wiley drove in Jacob Campbell and Gabe Irwin with a single to make it 5-0.
  • Shields. After his performance on Tuesday, he leads the team with 17 homers, 72 RBI and a .745 slugging mark.
  • The third inning. OBU exploded for eight runs on five hits. That included a grand slam from Shields and a solo shot by Camron Grant. Through three, it was 16-1 Bison.
  • Pitching. Kimbro, Pool, William Ellis, Jake Wellington and Bryant Thornton were all solid and ended up allowing five runs. The group was able to induce eight fly-ball outs and seven groundouts as well.
What Went Wrong
  • Very little. Only two things jumped out: NSU was issued eight walks while four different RiverHawks players hit homers.
On The Horizon
  • The Bison will close out their regular season with a three-game GAC homestand against Southern Nazarene. First contest comes April 26 at 6 p.m. A win in any of the three games will clinch a conference tournament berth for OBU.
