TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Oklahoma Baptist swept Northeastern State in Tuesday's doubleheader in Tahlequah, defeating the Riverhawks 3-0 and 8-1 to close non-conference play this season.
The Bison (34-11, 24-3 GAC) bullpen limited NSU (8-33, 3-19 MIAA) to 12 hits, while the offense charted 11 runs and 18 connections en route to its fifth consecutive win.
GAME ONE
OBU didn't waste any time getting ahead of Northeastern, as a couple of scores in the second inning earned the green and gold an early advantage.
Those runs came on a Sydney Adler ground out and Meghan Roberts double to right field.
From the third to the bottom of the sixth frame, Maggie Place put on a clinic inside the circle. After allowing a hit in each of the first two stanzas, Place silenced the Riverhawks' bats during the span.
Meanwhile, Oklahoma Baptist charted five hits and added its final run in the sixth on an Adi Reese single.
Place retired NSU 1-2-3 in their last at-bat to secure her 14th victory. The freshman struck out five batters and gave up four hits without walking a single Riverhawk. Additionally, she forced 11 fly-outs.
Shelby Warden and Sammie Greene registered two hits apiece, while three others brought a runner across home plate.
GAME TWO
OBU erupted for eight runs on 10 hits to seal the sweep in the finale, their third 10-hit performance in the last five games.
Three Bison compiled two hits, including Warden, boosting her Tuesday total to a team-best of four connections. Reese and Morgan Max were the other contributions.
S. Adler brought in a couple of runners, while Greene and Ryan charted a home run apiece. Ryan has 16 homers on the season, one shy of the program's all-time record.
In the pitching lane, Olivia Cummings earned her first win of the season after striking out two and allowing one score. She also gave up eight hits and walked a batter.
Kayleigh Jones tossed 3.0 innings before being relieved by Cummings. She struck out four without surrendering a hit or run.
Greene opened the game with a two-run shot over left field before OBU tacked on four in the fourth frame. After an S. Adler single and an NSU error scored three, Adi Reese doubled to put OBU ahead 5-0. Then Ryan went yard in the following frame to extend the advantage to six runs.
In the seventh, Hailey Stanford scored on a passed ball to stamp the victory.
