Bison Collect Another Sweep

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Oklahoma Baptist secured its 17th straight conference series victory with back-to-back wins over Ouachita Baptist on Saturday afternoon, besting the Tigers 10-2 and 5-0 to maintain its first-place position in GAC action.

OBU (31-11, 24-3 GAC) swept a league opponent for the sixth time this year, two off last season's program record of eight. OUA dropped to 10-34 with a 5-22 record in Great American Conference play.

GAME ONE

The Bison racked up 10 runs on 10 hits, their fourth 10-run performance in the last seven games.

Oklahoma Baptist got hot early and often, plating seven runs in the inaugural frame. After Adi Reese scored on a Tiger throwing error, Shelby Warden unloaded the bases with a grand slam to push OBU's advantage to 5-0.

A few batters later, Reese brought two more across home plate on a double for a seven-run cushion.

Ouachita responded with a score in the second, but it'd wouldn't mean much as the Bison charted a run in three consecutive frames to earn the dominating victory.

Abby Laskowski, Sammie Greene, and Warden had two hits, while Reese registered a couple of RBI.

Three Bison stepped into the circle, including Maggie Place (13-6), who allowed one unearned score and struck out three in 5.0 innings. Jaycee Shaffer and Olivia Cummings twirled an inning apiece. Shaffer gave up an earned run, walked two, and fanned a batter.

GAME TWO

OBU hopped out to another early start in the finale, plating two in the first frame courtesy of a Morgan Max double.

The Bison scored another in the fourth on a Cassidy Morrow single before adding two more in the sixth and the seventh to secure the sweep.

Warden turned in another two-hit outing, along with Reese and Max. OBU's designated player, Max, also led the team in runners batted in.

Collecting her 17th win of the season was Kayleigh Jones, who nearly secured a perfect game with one hit in 7.0 innings of work. The Tigers managed a hit in the bottom of the seventh to erase Jones' chances, but it didn't stop the fifth-year pitcher from recording 11 strikeouts.

NEXT UP

Oklahoma Baptist travels to Tahlequah for a midweek doubleheader against Northeastern State. The first pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
