Jones Collects Seventh Career No-Hitter as Bison Sweep Tigers

SHAWNEE – Kayleigh Jones tossed her seventh career no-hitter as Oklahoma Baptist completed its sweep of East Central with two victories on Friday afternoon at Bison Softball Park.

OBU (25-10, 17-2 GAC) run-ruled the Tigers (15-20, 6-14 GAC) 11-0 in the opener before adding a 4-0 win to wrap up the series. The Bison didn't allow a single ECU run this series and outscored the opposition 18-0.

Jones, already the all-time program and Great American Conference leader in no-hitters, added another to her esteemed resume. This time, the right-hander tallied seven strikeouts in a complete game of work and walked one, the only blemish that discarded a perfect game.

It is Jones' third no-hitter of the year, topping her single-season school record (2) that she reached twice in her career (2023, 2022). As a result, the senior boosted her wins total to 13 with only four losses. Her other no-hitters came against Northwestern Oklahoma State (3/1) and Southern Nazarene (3/12).

GAME ONE

A six-run inaugural inning lifted Oklahoma Baptist to an early comfortable lead. The surge, which made its way through the entire lineup, began with an Emily Adler one-bagger that plated Sammie Greene.

Ally Ryan singled hit in the next at-bat to bring E. Adler in before an Ayzia Shirey connection sent two home for a 5-0 cushion.

Sydney Adler rounded out the action on a sacrifice fly that crossed the final run.

Then in the third, OBU erupted for five scores on two home runs from Samantha Campos and Alli Bordwine. It was the first home run of Bordwine's collegiate career and the first of the year for Campos.

In the circle, Maggie Place allowed three hits without giving up a score in 3.1 innings. She added five strikeouts en route to her 10th victory. Olivia Cummings came in as relief in the third and charted one punchout while surrendering one hit.

Shirey finished with two RBI, while E. Adler posted a team-best in hits (2).

GAME TWO

Morgan Max gave OBU a 1-0 advantage at the bottom of the first before Adi Reese widened the margin to two in the third on a single through right field.

Kennedy Clark doubled in the fifth to plate OBU's final scorers, Ryan and E. Adler.

Max and E. Adler recorded two hits, while Clark led the club with a couple of RBI.

In addition to her near-flawless effort in the pitching lane, Jones forced nine groundouts and four flyouts.

NEXT UP

Oklahoma Baptist will hit the road on Tuesday for a midweek doubleheader with Northeastern State. Game one's start time in Tahlequah, Okla., is scheduled for 3 p.m.
