SHAWNEE – Pitcher Kayleigh Jones struck out 11 batters and surrendered one hit in Thursday's series-opening victory over East Central at Bison Softball Park.
Jones and company blanked the Tigers 3-0 to improve its season record to 23-10 (15-2 GAC).
The right-handed twirler was nearly perfect as she went the distance to collect her fifth shutout of the year and 12th victory. Additionally, Jones only walked one and forced six flyouts.
Ally Ryan turned in a 3-for-3 performance at the plate, which included three RBI and her 11th home run. It was her second three-hit outing this season.
Four others recorded hits, including Sammie Greene who flew around the bags to chart her third triple thus far.
Jones mowed down three straight Tigers in the inaugural frame before Ryan struck first with a single to score Emily Adler for a 1-0 advantage.
After that, OBU kept the scoresheet clean. Jones racked up nine more strikeouts and allowed one connection while the Bison defense was near flawless.
Oklahoma Baptist did add some insurance in the fifth, courtesy of Ryan's two-run shot over right field.
