SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist drew a split in Tuesday's doubleheader with Lone Star Conference affiliate Cameron University, defeating the Aggies 4-1 in game one before falling in the finale 5-0.
The Bison moved to 22-10 (14-2 GAC) on the year, while CU pushed its record to 20-13 (15-11 LSC).
GAME ONE
OBU got ahead of their opponent quickly after giving up a score at the top of the second frame. The Bison racked up three runs when it was their turn, courtesy of a base-clearing double from Sammie Greene.
OBU's center fielder smacked a shot out to the grass to bring Sydney Adler, Samantha Campos, and Kennedy Clark around.
Then, Ally Ryan extended the green and gold's margin with her 10th home run of the season, good for a three-run (4-1) cushion.
A combined effort in the circle from Maggie Place and Morgan Max limited Cameron to just one hit the rest of the way. After twirling four full innings, Place was relieved by Max, who went on to earn her second save this year.
Place collected three strikeouts while giving up five hits and a score en route to her ninth victory. Max charted a season high in punchouts (7) without surrendering a connection or run in 3.0 frames of action.
Campos and S. Adler turned in OBU's last two hits.
GAME TWO
The Oklahoma Baptist offense hit a wall in the finale, as they were held scoreless for the first time since the season-opening weekend in February.
OBU posted three connections, while the Aggies registered eight hits.
CU started hot, plating three runs on two hits in the inaugural frame before Bison pitcher Jaycee Shaffer regained control. Over the next four innings, Shaffer only gave up a hit while striking out four.
Then, Cameron caught fire and landed three hits for two more scores in the sixth before securing the victory.
Shaffer (2-1) went the distance for the second time this year and suffered her first loss. She finished with a career-high in strikeouts (7).
Kennedy Clark was responsible for two of OBU's total hits, while Adi Reese accounted for the other.
