MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Oklahoma Baptist rallied from a one-run deficit to top Southern Arkansas 6-3 in the series finale at Dawson Field on Sunday afternoon.
OBU (21-9, 14-2 GAC) fell into a 3-2 hole after a two-run outburst from SAU (21-11, 10-7 GAC) in the third inning but regained control and posted four runs over the next three frames to secure their fifth consecutive GAC series victory.
The pitching staff of Maggie Place and Kayleigh Jones (11-2) took care of business once again. Place twirled 4.2 frames before being relieved by Jones, who wrapped up the win without surrendering a run.
Place registered six strikeouts and allowed two earned scores, while Jones fanned a couple and limited the opposition to one hit.
Morgan Max and Adi Reese collected a pair of hits and combined for three RBI. Max homered once and accounted for two RBI, while adding a stolen bag.
Max planted the Bison's first score in the second frame on a solo blast, her sixth of the season, over left center. Reese was responsible for the next, a single to left field to put OBU ahead 2-1 going into the bottom of the third.
Then, Southern Arkansas responded with two runs to claim its first advantage of the contest.
OBU punched back with a score in the fifth, courtesy of a Kennedy Clark groundout, before a three-run Bison eruption in the sixth.
Max's bat kickstarted the surge, singling to plate Sydney Adler ahead of a Sammie Greene score from an SAU throwing error in the same sequence.
Max also had a part in the club's final run, as an attempt to throw her out at second base resulted in an Ally Ryan score to grant Oklahoma Baptist a five-run cushion.
The momentum carried into the bottom of the seventh as Jones sat down two Muleriders via strikeout before Ryan gloved the final out on a foul ball.
