OBU Impresses at Southeastern

DURANT – Oklahoma Baptist (14-8, 6-5 GAC) pitchers Brek Galbreath and Nolan Feazle had great days on the mound as the Bison swept a Great American Conference doubleheader at Southeastern Oklahoma State on Sunday.

The Bison run-ruled SE in the opener 14-2 before winning the second game 7-1.

Galbreath and Feazle, going against the No. 12 home-run hitting team in the nation, allowed just one long ball in 14 total innings and surrendered three runs in the process.

GAME ONE

Galbreath's only miscue against Southeastern came in the fourth when the hosts hit a two-run shot down the left-field line. However, that was after the Bison had complete control of the game. Galbreath ended up with six strikeouts and earned his third win.

OBU raced out to an 8-0 advantage highlighted by two, full-count homers from Austin Gonzales. Those were the outfielder's first bombs of the season. The Bison also got homers from Isiah Lissade, Jacob Campbell and Alex Schroeder. By game's end, the five bombs OBU attained tied the season-high the team got earlier this season against Northwestern Oklahoma State on March 2.

Among the key highlights from the first game, Gonzales and Lissade hit back-to-back jacks in the fourth while Troy Shields delivered a two-run single in the sixth. That latter hit bumped the visitor's lead to 12-2.

Then in the seventh, Campbell delivered his fourth homer of the year which also plated Camron Grant.

By the end of the contest, Lissade had four hits, Schroeder drove in four and a total of six Bison had multiple hits. Shields also had eight putouts from his catcher position.

GAME TWO

Feazle continued the dominant pitching performance in the second affair. He didn't allow an extra-base hit and struck out six which was one off his season high.

Outside of Feazle, the Bison had some solid defensive moments throughout the game. Spencer Dickinson helped turn a 5-4-3 double play in the third before Schroeder threw out a base runner in the fifth when SE had two on.

Offensively, the Bison pulled away after the halfway point of the game.

With the score knotted at 1-1 in the fourth, Shields scored on wild pitch before Campbell smoked a solo bomb to right center a frame later. That hit moved OBU's lead to 3-1. Then a couple batters after, Jayden Shafer added a run-scoring single which increased OBU's advantage to 4-1.

The Bison's final runs came courtesy of Shields and Lissade who each homered in the sixth and seventh frames, respectively.

Tomorrow at 1 p.m., the two teams will play a single game to wrap up the series.
