Bison Cage Tigers, Win Third Straight

SHAWNEE – Behind four double-digit scorers, Oklahoma Baptist pulled off its third straight victory in a 71-64 defeat of Ouachita Baptist on Saturday afternoon.

OBU lifted its record to 10-10 overall with a 7-7 mark in conference action.

The Bison forced 20 turnovers for the third time this season, including 13 steals, to go along with an outstanding performance at the free throw line.

Oklahoma Baptist sunk 21 of its 24 attempts, a season-best percentage (87.5%) at the charity stripe.

LEADERS

Daniel Ransom paced OBU in scoring, pairing a tie of his season-high in points (18) with six rebounds. Ransom knocked down 10-of-11 from the free throw line, the most of any Bison this season. He also added two steals and an assist.

Terry Coner Jr. poured in 17 points, four assists, and three steals. He netted three triples and went a perfect 4-for-4 at the charity stripe.

Trevin Wade scored 15 points, dished out a game-high seven assists, and poked away six steals. Wade has 18 steals in the last three games. The point guard also grabbed four rebounds and registered five free throws.

Additionally, Wade reached 1,000 career points, entering the night with 992 points in his collegiate career.

Ricky Brown recorded 13 points and put in three from beyond the arc. Brown added two steals and a couple of assists to his stat sheet.

FIRST HALF

Nearly four minutes had passed before Ouachita recorded their first goal, as OBU jumped out to a 9-0 advantage. However, the cushion was short-lived as the Tigers responded with a 9-0 run of their own to tie the game at nine-all at the 10-minute mark.

A Ransom free throw broke the knot before OBU went ahead by as much as five (14-9).

By intermission, the game was tied at 23, one of the lowest-scoring halves this season.

OBU shot just 28.6 percent during the period, while OUA fired 37.0 percent from the floor.

SECOND HALF

The contest remained narrow in the second stanza until Ouachita etched out a five-point advantage seven minutes in (42-37).

Moments later, a Ransom layup the game and sparked a 12-2 run, good enough to put the Bison ahead 53-45. Oklahoma Baptist extended its lead to 10 two minutes later, courtesy of another Ransom bucket.

Down the stretch, OBU would not let the Tigers closer than seven points. That margin came on an OUA three-point make with 10 seconds remaining.

NEXT UP

Oklahoma Baptist looks to extend its streak with a date at Harding next Thursday, Feb. 8. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Searcy.
