Bison Roll No. 14 Missouri Southern

SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist senior Isiah Lissade hit for the cycle as the Bison blew past 14th-ranked (NCBWA) Missouri Southern by a 20-10 count on Tuesday at Bobby Cox Field. It was OBU's first win over a ranked opponent since a 12-3 triumph over Southern Arkansas on April 15, 2022.

The Bison improved to 10-5 with the result.

Key Leaders
  • Lissade went 4-for-6 and completed the cycle in just five innings. Plus, his four hits were a career-high.
  • First baseman Jayden Shafer went 3-for-5 with two RBI while third baseman Spencer Dickinson went 3-for-6 which included a walk-off, three-run homer in the eighth.
  • Will Joseph also added three hits while scoring three runs.
  • Troy Shields and Alex Schroeder each hit homers in the game while Shields drove in five.
  • On the mound, Logan Kimbro tossed a staff-high 4.2 innings, allowed just one run and got 10 fly-ball outs. He also limited the Lions to just one extra-base hit.
What Went Right
  • Lissade. OBU's second baseman was in a zone from the start taking the first pitch he saw from MSSU's Kyle Kaempf and sending it to center. He completed the cycle in the fifth when he beat out a throw from Lions shortstop Henry Kusiak for an infield single.
  • Both the Bison's 20 runs and 21 hits were season-highs. It marked the first time since a March 18, 2023 game against Emporia State that OBU reached 20 hits.
  • Kimbro. The junior lefty was very good thanks in large part to his change-up. That helped keep the nation's No. 23 batting unit in check. Kimbro also got the help of his defense which included some impressive plays from Joseph and shortstop Jacob Campbell.
  • A dominant second. OBU sent 13 batters into the box in the second frame. They would score seven runs including a three-run blast from Shields. Rafael Gutierrez and Jaden Wiley also notched RBI doubles.
  • OBU's defense. The visitors had nine runs through three frames. After that, the team and pitching came together to hold the nation's No. 13 scoring offense to just one more run.
What Went Wrong
  • Within the first two frames, Missouri Southern had five runs, scoring four of those on RBI knocks.
  • Then in the third, the Lions scored four more including two of a homer from Will Doherty.
On The Horizon
  • The green and gold will return to action on March 1 at 6 p.m. against Northwestern Oklahoma State (11-5, 3-3 GAC).
