Dickinson’s Extra-Innings Hit Propels Bison

SHAWNEE – Spencer Dickinson provided a walk-off hit in the eleventh as Oklahoma Baptist (7-2, 1-0 GAC) defeated Arkansas Tech 7-6 in Great American Conference play at Bobby Cox Field.

The Wonder Boys dropped to 3-6 and 0-1 in the GAC in the process.

Key Leaders
  • Will Joseph went 2-for-6 with a three-run homer.
  • Jaden Wiley posted a 2-for-4 line with a double.
  • Alex Schroeder, Isiah Lissade and Dickinson finished with two hits.
  • First baseman Jayden Shafer registered a hit and reached base three times via walk.
  • Brek Galbreath tossed seven frames and got seven strikeouts. In the process, he became the 14th Bison all-time to reach 200 strikeouts.
  • William Ellis was outstanding down the stretch for OBU. He pitched the last four innings, gave up just one run and induced a combined 10 groundouts and fly-ball outs.
What Went Right
  • Rallying. The Bison were down 4-0 heading to the bottom of the fourth. Then in that frame, the hosts got three runs. OBU benefitted by a balk from John Gray which scored Jacob Campbell. After that, Wiley connected with an RBI double and Austin Gonzales drove in Wiley with a sacrifice fly.
  • In the fifth, Shafer and Schroeder singled before Joseph launched his first homer of the year to right. That gave OBU the lead 6-4.
  • Extra-innings defense. Ellis and the Bison defense allowed just one hit in the tenth and eleventh frames. For Ellis, he earned his first win in an OBU uniform.
  • Dickinson. The newcomer took a 2-0 pitch and put a shot into right field which pushed Shafer into home for the game-winning run.
What Went Wrong
  • Slow start. OBU's offense generated just two hits in the first three innings. And defensively, Tech got ahold of Galbreath who allowed four runs and five hits early on.
  • Logan Schwenke tied the game at 6-6 in the eighth with a solo bomb. That was the first time Ellis allowed a homer in three appearances.
On The Horizon
  • Both teams will meet Feb. 18 at noon for a GAC doubleheader.
