Bison Sweep Day Two at Raising Cane's Festival

EDMOND, Okla. – Oklahoma Baptist swept day two of the Raising Cane's Festival with wins over (RV) Washburn (8-3) and Nebraska Kearney (4-4) to remain perfect on the week. OBU topped the Ichabods 3-2 before dismantling the Lopers 14-1 in five innings.

The Bison improved their record to 5-5 with its third straight triumph.

GAME ONE VS. WASHBURN

Washburn jumped out to a one-run lead in the inaugural inning, but Ally Ryan quickly erased the deficit in the third frame with a double out to left field, bringing Meghan Roberts and Emily Adler across home plate.

Pitcher Kayleigh Jones and company kept the score sheet clean over the following two stanzas before Ryan tacked on another score in the fifth for a 3-1 Bison lead.

Then, the Ichabods came within striking distance. After Jones fanned two at the top of the seventh, a triple from WU's Marrit Mead drew the tally 3-2. Thankfully, Jones regained control and struck out the next batter to seal the victory.

Ryan paced OBU with a 2-for-2 showing at the plate and three RBI, while four others collected hits for the Bison.

Jones improved her season record to 3-1 after striking out 12 without walking a batter. She surrendered two earned runs and seven hits.

GAME TWO VS. NEBRASKA KEARNEY

Oklahoma Baptist turned in its best offensive performance of the season, collecting 13 hits off Nebraska Kearney. It's the most connections by the club since last season when they matched the total against East Central on March 31, 2023.

Freshman Abby Laskowski recorded her first home run as a Bison, clearing the bases for a grand slam over left field. She also scored another run after reaching base on a walk.

Hailey Stanford went a perfect 3-for-3 in the batter's box and scored twice. It's the first three-hit outing of her career. Additionally, Kennedy Clark tallied three RBI, while Adi Reese and Ryan brought in two runners.

Morgan Max finished 2-for-2 and scored twice, while Ayzia Shirey charted her first RBI with the green and gold.

OBU's bats got hot early and remained ablaze, beginning with a score on a sacrifice fly from Reese in the opening frame. Clark tacked on another with a double out to center for a 2-0 Bison cushion.

Then, Oklahoma Baptist scored five runs in back-to-back frames, going up 12-0 before adding two at the top of the fourth inning for a 14-run advantage.

The Lopers scored once in the fourth, but the deficit was too significant as sophomore pitcher Jayce Shaffer stood tall in the circle to wrap up her second career victory on Bison Hill.

Shaffer registered a career-high six strikeouts while surrendering three hits and one earned run in 5.0 innings of action. The win improved her season record to 1-0.
