WEATHERFORD – Oklahoma Baptist won for the 11th time in the last 12 games over Southwestern Oklahoma State on Thursday, winning 78-63. The Bison ran their record to 8-3 overall and 5-0 in the Great American Conference with the result.
Defense was very good for OBU on this night. They held the hosts to 34.4 percent shooting. That was OBU's best performance against an opponent this season.
The Bison showcased balance and efficiency throughout the contest, shooting an even 50% from the field (30-of-60) and won the rebounding battle, 43-39.
Terry Coner Jr. led the way, scoring 17 points on 8-of-14 shooting and contributing four assists.
Daniel Ransom was a force, posting 15 points and eight rebounds, while
Nathan Wilson added 13 points, seven boards, and two blocks.
Southwestern struggled with consistency, particularly from beyond the arc, where they shot just 25% (7-of-28). Kray Rogers was their top performer, dropping 18 points, including four 3-pointers. Tobias Roland and Elijah Williams chipped in 12 points apiece, but the team could not keep pace with Oklahoma Baptist's relentless attack.
OBU seized control early, outscoring the Bulldogs 37-30 in the first half. Despite a spirited effort from the hosts, the Bison kept their composure in the second half, maintaining a double-digit lead for much of the final 20 minutes. The Bison's depth shone, with bench players contributing 23 points compared to Southwestern's 10.
Key to the Bison's success was their ability to capitalize on turnovers and dominate in the paint, where they scored 34 points. Conversely, SWOSU managed only 20 points inside, struggling to generate high-percentage opportunities against Oklahoma Baptist's sturdy defense.
This victory reinforces Oklahoma Baptist's status as a conference frontrunner, as they look to build on their unbeaten GAC streak. That will come in 2025 on Jan. 4 when it hosts Northwestern Oklahoma State at the Noble Complex.
