SHAWNEE – It's the final regular-season match of the fall for the Oklahoma Baptist soccer team on Saturday. The Bison will head to Weatherford to face Southwestern Oklahoma State at 1 p.m.
What's at stake: a berth into the Great American Tournament scheduled to start Nov. 15. OBU is currently in the top four of the league. A win over the Bulldogs would solidify a spot in the four-team tournament. However, a tie or loss, paired with an East Central win at Harding, would allow ECU to leapfrog the Bison.
Earlier this season, the Bison dialed up a 3-2 win over the Bulldogs in Shawnee on Sept. 25. In that match,
Hali White scored twice, including the game-winner in the 86th minute. Historically, Southwestern leads the series 11-9-4 and are 6-3-3 at home. Plus, the Bulldogs have won three of the last four at the SWOSU Athletic Complex.
Here are notes on both teams leading into the regular-season finale.
Bison Notes
- OBU tied Southern Nazarene 0-0 on Nov. 6. That moved the Bison's record to 5-6-5.
- Should the Bison win on Saturday, they'll have extended their GAC Tournament appearances to eight times in the last eight seasons.
- Freshman Claire Stoermer notched her sixth shutout of the season against SNU. That's second-most in the GAC.
- She also has the third-best goals against average mark (1.06).
- The Bison have gone scoreless the last two matches. The last time that happened was Sept. 11 and 14 against Northeastern State and Midwestern State, respectively.
- In the previous matchup with SWOSU, the Bison had an 11-5 shots on goal advantage. White, Emma Teague and Alanna Bloomingdale combined for seven of those attempts.
- Over the last four times OBU has played at SWOSU, they have scored just twice.
Bulldog Notes
- Southwestern tied Northwestern 0-0 on Nov. 6 in Weatherford. This fall, the Bulldogs have a 5-7-4 record.
- The Bulldogs rank sixth out of seven GAC teams with 14 goals scored. That's the fewest goals scored by SWOSU since 2014.
- Ruth Vasquez leads the team with 37 shots, third-most in the GAC.
- No SWOSU player ranks top-10 in the GAC in either goals, assists or points.
- In goal is Terra Rybuck. Her two shutouts are second-fewest in the conference. Her 1.63 GAA is also sixth of seven players.
