Bison, Crimson Storm Tie in Gritty Defensive Clash

SHAWNEE -- In a defensive standoff, Southern Nazarene and Oklahoma Baptist fought to a scoreless draw on Wednesday at the OBU Soccer Complex.

The Bison moved their record to 5-6-5 and 4-3-4 in the Great American Conference. As for SNU, it is now 6-4-6 and 4-2-5 in GAC play. After Wednesday's conference action, OBU can clinch a berth into next week's four-team GAC tournament with a win this Saturday at Southwestern Oklahoma State. Plus, the possibility remains of the green and gold hosting the tournament which would begin Nov. 15.

As for Wednesday's match, both teams struggled to find the back of the net. OBU recorded 13 shots while SNU managed six, however, high-quality looks were few.

Emma Teague and Sam Sheffield led OBU team's offensive push, combining for eight shots, while SNU's Ella Adams and Karla Ramirez each tested the OBU goalkeeper Claire Stoermer.

The match was highly competitive, especially defensively, with each side trading fouls and defensive stops. SNU midfielder Natalie Montanez received the game's only yellow card in the 28th minute, adding to the intensity of the physical contest.

Storm keeper Gianna Bonnett was crucial for her team, making five saves, including a key stop on an early attempt by Olivia Kenas. Her counterpart, Stoermer, was equally impressive, recording three saves, including two in the second half to keep her team level.

Also of note, OBU's back line which included Grace Parker, Chloe Monroe, Annabelle Joski, Ashley Bell and Kenas did a good job limiting SNU's Bellas Morgas. The Storm's forward came into the match with a league-high 11 points.

Although SNU had a slight edge in corner kicks, taking five compared to none for OBU, it couldn't capitalize on these set-piece opportunities.

OBU's match at SWOSU on Nov. 9 will kick off at 1 p.m.
