OBU Volleyball due south for Halloween match against Southeastern Oklahoma State Thursday evening

SHAWNEE – Bison Volleyball is back in action Thursday evening for a 6 p.m. match against the Southeastern Oklahoma State University Storm.

The green and gold are back in motion after an intensely competitive five-set loss to Harding in the previous week of conference play. Prior to the Friday night match, the Bison maintained their longest winning streak of the 2024 season with six consecutive wins. The Thursday night sweep over Arkansas Tech and the tough fall to Harding brought the OBU record to 1-1 on the week. 

Bison Notes

• The Bison are 13-10 overall with a 7-4 conference record. The victory over NWOSU on Oct. 3 began a six-game win streak for OBU with wins additional wins over Ouachita Baptist, Henderson State, Arkansas Monticello, and Arkansas Tech.
• On Sept. 17, the Bison kicked off GAC play at home against the Storm. The first 2024 meeting with SE saw the green and gold fall short in a five-set match with a 15-13 ending in the final set to see the visitors win, 3-2. 
• OBU was picked to finish 1^st in the Preseason Poll. The Bison are currently sitting in fourth behind SWOSU, Harding, and East Central. 
• The green and gold are second in the conference in digs per set with an average of 18.30 and a total of 1,610 digs to lead the GAC. OBU is fourth in several categories including points per set (16.30), assists per set (12.01), and kills per set (13.00). The Bison are fifth in service aces per set with a 1.53 average. The Bison are third in total assists (1,057), and kills (1,144).
• Jill Leslie has the fourth highest hitting percentage in the conference at .317, fifth in total points at 317 points for a seventh-place average of 3.60 points per set. Leslie also sits in 10^th for kills per set at 2.92. Emily Boyer is second place in assists per set with an average of 10.31 assists per set, totaling 866 assists. Boyer also leads the GAC in aces with 37 and sits in second place for service aces per set with an average of 0.44. Karsyn Hunter is seventh in the league in digs per set at 4.00 with a total of 352 digs. 

 
Storm Notes

• SE is 10-12 overall and 6-5 in conference play. The most recent match for SE took place on Monday evening. The midweek meeting with Oklahoma Christian resulted in a loss for the Storm in the form of a five-set battle.
• Headed into the match against the Bison, the Storm are 5-1 at home. The two most recent home matches for SE ended with a pair of sweeps over Arkansas Monticello and Southern Arkansas.
• SE was selected to finish sixth in the Preseason Poll and are currently ranked seventh in the conference. 
• The Storm is ranked third in digs per set with a 17.95 average. SE has the fourth highest hitting percentage at .215 and the fifth highest kills per set average at 12.71.
