Stout Defensive Play Ends With Draw for OBU

ADA – Aggressive defense along with solid goalkeeping forced Oklahoma Baptist and East Central to play to a 0-0 draw on Wednesday at Tiger Field.

The Great American Conference match moved OBU's record to 5-6-4 overall and 4-4-3 in the conference. With 15 points, the Bison are tied for first with Southern Nazarene and Ouachita. As for ECU, it moved into fourth with 14 points.

Next week, the Bison will conclude their regular season with a Nov. 6 home match against SNU and a trip to Southwestern Oklahoma State on Nov. 9.

OBU was led by Lex Williamson, who took six shots, three of which were on target. Sophie Jordan added two more on-target attempts to help as well. As a team, the green and gold peppered the ECU net with 12 on-goal shots, testing its keeper, Madison Mayhall.

Within the first two minutes of action, OBU had fired twice on Mayhall from Sam Sheffield and Jordan.

Second-half action saw a flurry of attempts with about 22 minutes left. Williamson, Annika Pinter, Anna Branham, Hali White and Krissy Fulton all fired on Mayhall but she continued her strong presence in goal.

As for ECU, midfielder Abbie Morris led its attack with five shots, three on target, and Reece Roberson added two more. Bison goalie Claire Stoermer, like Mayhall, was busy but ended up with seven saves and prevented ECU from finding the back of the net.

Next week's home finale, which is also Senior Night, against Southern Nazarene will kick off at 6 p.m. at the OBU Soccer Complex.
