SHAWNEE -- In a tightly contested match, Northwestern Oklahoma and Oklahoma Baptist drew 1-1 on Saturday at the OBU Soccer Complex. Both teams traded goals in the second half, leaving the result undecided.
Very early in the first half, the Bison nearly scored twice from
Lex Williamson and
Alanna Bloomingdale but couldn't convert. Williamson was particularly active, firing off seven shots throughout the match. Northwestern's goalkeeper, Rachel Brown, kept her team in the game with five crucial saves.
The breakthrough came early in the second half when the Rangers took the lead in the 48th minute. Tiara Campbell finished off a highlight-reel right-foot flick from in front of the goal to break the scoreless tie.
Oklahoma Baptist responded in the 75th minute with
Sophie Jordan leveling the score. Assisted by
Lani Waddle, Jordan scored from close range to make it 1-1. That was her first goal of the season.
Oklahoma Baptist kept the pressure on, registering 14 total shots compared to Northwestern's nine. Despite this, both defenses held strong, preventing any further goals.
The Bison moved to 3-6-3 on the season, while Northwestern Oklahoma sits at 2-6-5. OBU is also 2-3-2 in GAC play which is good for fourth in the standings with five conference matches left.
