Box Score SHAWNEE – Bison Volleyball secured their fourth consecutive win Thursday night after a clean sweep of the UAM Blossoms.
The green and gold claimed a 3-0 victory at Arkansas Monticello to climb to an overall record of 11-9 and a 5-3 conference record.
Set one went to OBU with a 25-17 final. In the second set, the green and gold secured a 25-16 total. The third and final set ended in favor of the visitors at 25-12. The Bison totaled 54 digs, 28 kills, eight blocks, seven aces, 27 assists and 43.0 points.
Avery Hellmuth and
Jill Leslie tallied seven kills each for the Bison.
Jh'Kyah Head added six for OBU. Leslie, Head and
Emily Boyer each amassed three blocks for the green and gold. Boyer and
Karsyn Hunter each secured a couple of aces for the visitors.
Set 1
In the opening set, the home team was first to the board with a kill. A four-score run saw the Bison take the lead at 4-1. As a service error added the sixth point for the green and gold, the Blossoms added a couple of points to tie things up at 6-6. Another 4-0 run from the visitors put OBU up 10-6 with a couple of errors from the opponent, a block from Boyer and an ace from
Rylee Unruh. The remainder of the set saw five 2-0 runs and a trio of consecutive points for the Bison to add up to a 25-17 total.
Set 2
The second frame opened with UAM taking the first couple of points. Leslie started a 3-0 run for the Bison with an error from the home team and an ace from Boyer to take the lead at 3-2. The next two points tied but a pair of kills from Head saw the green and gold jump back ahead for a 6-4 total. The Blossoms tallied another point, but Hellmuth laid down a kill to start a 4-0 run for the Bison to take a five-point lead at 10-5. A kill from Unruh and a couple of errors extended the lead for OBU to six.
Allie Stricker tallied the 14
th point for the Bison. A UAM error followed and an ace from Hellmuth and a kill from Leslie put the green and gold up by nine points for a 17-8 lead. Hellmuth denied the home team's efforts with a block to bring the total to 23 for OBU. The next four points went to the Blossoms, but Hellmuth added another kill for the visiting team and another UAM error sealed the deal on the second set at 25-16.
Set 3
OBU changed the tone in the third set with a block from Head and Leslie to take the opening point. The home team took the next two points, but the Bison answered with a couple points to take the lead at 3-2. UAM regained control with a 3-0 run to see the Blossoms up, 5-3. A kill added the sixth point for UAM but a big 8-0 run for OBU saw the Bison take the lead with a 12-6 total. Hellmuth added three kills,
Kenedy Houchin tallied a kill, Head contributed an ace and a trio of errors from the home team made up the impressive eight-score run. The Blossoms continued to fight but ultimately the extensive 8-0 run never saw UAM recover. At 20-12, the green and gold took the next five consecutive points to close out the set at 25-12 and the evening at 3-0 to put the Bison back in the win column.
OBU Volleyball will be back in action Friday afternoon for a 4 p.m. meeting with Southern Arkansas in Magnolia, Arkansas.
