Crimson Storm Clamps Down on Bison

BETHANY – Southern Nazarene held Oklahoma Baptist to two shots on goal during its 1-0 win at the Wanda Rhodes Soccer Complex on Wednesday.

The hosts improved to 5-4-2 overall and 3-2-1 in the Great American Conference. As for the Bison, who are on their first three-match losing streak in GAC play since 2015, they moved their record to 3-6-2 and 2-3-1 in league action.

OBU will look to snap out of its funk this coming Saturday, Oct. 19 at 2 p.m. when it hosts Northwestern Oklahoma State.

Offense was really at a premium for both teams on Wednesday in Bethany. In the first half, each team took four shots. The Bison had a decent opportunity in the 16th minute when Alanna Bloomingdale raced towards the goal mouth after a long pass up the middle. However, SNU goalie Gianna Bonnett was able to retrieve that ball before OBU's senior forward could make an attempt.

Six minutes passed before the Storm scored the match's lone goal. After a cross from the far sideline, Ella Adams headed the ball to near the left post and watched as Bella Morgas finished it off into the lower-right portion of the net.

The Bison tried to equalize with less than a minute before half, however, Krissy Fulton's shot was saved by Bonnett.

Second-half offense brought nothing of significance for the Bison. There were a couple shots from Annabelle Joski and Sophie Jordan, but both sailed wide.

Freshman goalie Claire Stoermer did her best and helped keep the score at 1-0 with a leaping save in the 56th minute. But the Bison's offense could never get going in the final 45 minutes as SNU prevailed 1-0.

This coming Saturday's contest with Northwestern will be the second meeting this season. Back on Sept. 28 in Alva, the teams tied 0-0.
