Bison Volleyball back on the road for midweek meeting with East Central

SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist Volleyball is headed into the midweek matchup against ECU after their first win of conference play at home over the SNU Storm.

The ladies in green and gold are coming off their first victory of conference play after a 3-1 win over the Southern Nazarene Storm. The Bison will go head-to-head with the Tigers at ECU on Tuesday at 7 p.m. 

Bison Notes
  • OBU is ranked third in the conference in assists per set at 11.34 with the most total assists in the GAC at 669. The Bison are third in the conference in total points with 902 and seventh in the GAC with 15.29 points per set. The green and gold are third in the GAC in kills with 730 total kills, averaging 12.37 per set. The Bison are seventh in total blocks with 89.0. OBU is fifth in service aces with 83. The green and gold lead the conference in total digs with 970 to average 16.44 per set.
  • The win over the Storm saw Emily Boyer surpass 1,000 career assists with 1,003 total assists. 
  • Karsyn Hunter claimed the first GAC Defensive Player of the Week award in the opening week of action.
  • OBU is 7-8 overall and 1-2 in conference play headed into the match against ECU.
  • The 2024 season saw head coach Anna Howle tally her 400th career win after a five-set win over McKendree University at home.
  • Jill Leslie is amongst the GAC top 10 best hitting percentages at .315. Leslie is tied for fifth in total kills with 159. Boyer leads the conference in total assists with 577 and is third in assists per set with 9.78. Hunter is third in total digs with 252, averaging 4.27 to rank seventh in the GAC. Leslie is third in the GAC in total points with a total of 194.5, averaging 3.30 per set to rank ninth in conference.
 
Tiger Notes
  • ECU is 8-6 overall with a 2-1 conference record headed into the evening's match.
  • The Tigers started off conference play at NWOSU, ending in a 3-0 loss for ECU. In a five-set match against SE, the Tigers claimed their first win GAC win of the season. ECU took on the Bulldogs from SWOSU for a five-set battle resulting in another win for the Tigers.
  • ECU is tied for fourth in assists per set at 11.02 with a total of 562. The Tigers are 5th in total digs with 806, averaging 15.80. 
  • The Tigers have two athletes ranked amongst the top 10 in conference for kills per set with Odalys Gonzalez averaging 3.35 per set and Emma Strickland averaging 3.00 per set. Julia Kabala is ranked fifth in the conference in assists per set at 9.10 with 464 total assists. Kabala is also fifth in aces per set with 0.41 and 21 aces tallied. Strickland is 10th in conference in digs per set at 3.45 with 169 total digs. Gonzalez is third in the GAC with 3.89 points per set and tied for second in total points at 198.5.
