SHAWNEE – There were big moments from
Jaedyn Getman and
Parker Stevenson along with some good defense for Oklahoma Baptist during the Bison's 52-48 win over Arkansas Tech on Thursday at the Noble Complex.
It marked OBU's second straight win in the series versus ATU, a first in the Division II era.
With the result, OBU improved to 6-7 and 3-4 in the Great American Conference.
Key Leaders
- Getman posted her third career double-double with a game-high 23 points and 11 boards. Her rebounding total tied a career-high set last season.
- Stevenson notched 13 points and a season-high 12 rebounds. That was her first career double-double.
- Jill Leslie had some huge rebounds, totaling 11 for the game. That was one off her career high. Leslie also blocked three shots.
What Went Right
- A strong second half. OBU was down early in the third, then its offense came through. The Bison made 6-of-11 (54.5%) from deep and were 11-of-28 (39.2%) from the field.
- Getman willed the team. The sophomore has blossomed into an even better player and led the squad in scoring for the tenth time. Maybe her biggest shot of the night came with 2:03 left when the Bison were nursing a one-point lead. With the shot clock dwindling down, Getman heaved a shot from the right wing and swished it through. That shot essentially iced the game.
- Stevenson and Leslie's rebounding. Each reached double digits in that statistic column and that helped OBU keep pace with ATU, which brought in the No. 12 team in the country in rebounding margin.
- Also of note, Stevenson made 7-of-8 at the foul line. That was the most free throws the freshman made in a game this season.
- Timely contributions. Faith Wright and Kennedy Large deserve a shoutout for making a few three-pointers in the second half. In the fourth quarter, Wright's three-pointer from right in front of the Bison bench gave the team its biggest lead, 41-31.
- Getting a stop. Leading by three, 51-48, with less than 30 seconds left, OBU got a stop after Alex Hill missed a three-pointer. Leslie got that rebound and it helped the Bison secure victory.
What Went Wrong
- The first half, for both teams, was mired with poor offense. The Bison made 6-of-32 (18.7%) and missed all 10 attempts from long range. Despite that, OBU only trailed 19-14 at half.
- Converting free throws. At one point, OBU was 11-of-12 at the charity stripe. But down the stretch, the team missed five of six. That gave an opportunity for ATU to tie the game.
On The Horizon
- The Bison will next play No. 13 Harding on Jan. 13 at 1 p.m. HU was defeated by No. 6 Southern Nazarene 60-51 on Thursday in Bethany.
