Pioneers Strike Quickly in Defeat of OBU

SHAWNEE – Texas Woman's University scored twice within the first seven minutes of action during a 3-0 win against Oklahoma Baptist on Thursday night. TWU improved to 3-0 while the green and gold slipped to 0-3.

Key Leaders
  • F Alyssa Striker: Tallied one goal and one assist.
  • M Bailee Radney: Scored a goal in the 70th minute that was assisted by Striker.
  • M Arianna Arboleda: Found the back of the net just 21 seconds into the match..
  • D Annabelle Joski: Shot an OBU-high three times at the TWU net
  • GK Mia Pendleton: Her 11 saves were two off the OBU single-game record and a personal-best.
What Went Right
  • Pendleton continues to shine in goal for OBU despite the team's slow start. As mentioned above, her 11 saves were a personal-high. Plus, she was just two saves off the program's single-game record of 13 last attained by Emma Beck on Sept. 12, 2014 against East Central.
  • Freshman Brae Baker showed some flashiness throughout the course of the match and ended up with two shots, one of which was on goal. That attempt in the 52nd minute nearly found the back of the net.
What Went Wrong
  • The Pioneers stole the momentum early, tallying a goal a mere 21 seconds in.
  • OBU was able to generate just three shots on goal from Baker, Avril Baccam and defender Annabelle Joski. Through three contests, the Bison are averaging 4.1 on-target attempts, a number that undoubtedly needs to rise.
On The Horizon
  • OBU will venture to Edmond on Saturday night to play Central Oklahoma (1-0-3). The Bronchos, who are receiving votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches Division II poll, are coming off a 4-1 win against Southwestern Oklahoma State. A season ago, OBU and UCO played to a 1-0 result in favor of the Bronchos.
