Cedarville Edges Bison, 1-0

CEDARVILLE, Ohio – No. 23-ranked (United Soccer Coaches) Cedarville got a handful defensively from Oklahoma Baptist and senior keeper Mia Pendleton on Saturday. However, after 90 minutes of play, the hosts found a single goal to defeat the green and gold. OBU fell to 0-2 with the result.

Key Leaders
  • GK Pendleton: she denied five Cedarville shots over the course of the match.
  • OBU's defense, after surrendering seven goals to Minnesota State-Mankato, was vastly improved. In addition to Pendleton, defenders Asley Baker, Krissy Fulton, Anna Branham and Ashley Bell held CU to six shots on goal.
  • F Audrey Nelson: CU's junior forward scored the match's lone goal in the 53rd minute.
What Went Right
  • As mentioned before, the Bison defense was exponentially better in this match compared to Thursday. Opportunities were limited for the Lady Jackets.
  • OBU nearly scored about four minutes into the second half. A streaking Avril Baccam passed to Olivia Kenas along the middle. However, the junior's right-footed boot was denied by a leaping Brooke Ackley near the left post.
What Went Wrong
  • The game's only goal came after the Bison failed to clear the ball from the 18. After Fulton helped defend the ball away from a Cedarville attacker, another Bison picked it up, and immediately turned it over. CU's Sophie Browndyke retrieved the ball, shot on Pendleton and the rebounded save came to Nelson who scored near the left post.
  • Offensive opportunities have been little so far this year for OBU. Following today's game, the Bison have found just 10 on-target looks through 180 minutes of action.
On the Horizon
  • The Bison will come back home on Sept. 7 against Texas Woman's for a 6 p.m. match. Last season, OBU won 2-1 over the Pioneers in Denton.
