SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist (4-5) will have a quick turnaround to shake off the loss to No. 25 Central Oklahoma as it will travel to Rolla, Missouri to face Missouri S&T and Upper Iowa. The green and gold will face the host Miners on Sept. 14 at 6 p.m. before playing the Peacocks at 10 a.m. on Sept. 15.
OBU is 0-2 all-time versus S&T and will be playing Upper Iowa for the first time.
Bison Notes
- The Bison are coming off a three-set loss to Central Oklahoma on Sept. 12.
- In that match, they were held to 30 kills and a .143 attack mark, both season-lows.
- Sophomore right-side hitter Jh'Kyah Head tallied a team-high nine kills in the match. This season, she has made a significant jump offensively. She's averaging 2.03 kills per set and hitting .231. Those are both career-bests.
- Middle blocker Jill Leslie is off to a great start through nine matches. She ranks in the top-nine in the GAC in two categories: hitting percentage (.313; 6th) & blocks (0.89; 9th).
- Defensively, Maci Langford checks in at No. 2 in the GAC in digs (4.63 per set).
- Also of note, sophomore Rylee Martin is seventh in assists (6.0).
- OBU has done a good job this season blocking. To date, they are 34th in Division II in total blocks (67.0) and rank 40th in blocks per set (2.23).
Missouri S&T Notes
- The Miners, members of the Great Lakes Valley Conference, have won five straight.
- They are 5-2 overall and have not lost at home (4-0).
- In the GLVC Pre-Season Poll, S&T was picked to finish in a tie for fourth.
- Senior right-side Madelyn Mason leads S&T with a 3.26 kills-per-set mark. She has secured at least 12 kills in five of seven matches this season.
- Fellow classmate Jordan Burton, a 2022 All-GLVC Second-Team honoree, is second on the team with 77 kills and a 2.96 average.
- Middle blocker Shelby Ply ranks seventh in the GLVC in hitting percentage (.355).
- S&T has two reliable defenders: Meiko Pearson and Alina Carrillo each average at least 3.07 digs per set.
- Like OBU, the Miners are a decent blocking team. They are fourth in the GLVC (2.15 p/s).
Upper Iowa Notes
- The Peacocks sit at 4-3 this season. Included in that was a trip to Anchorage at the Alaska Fairbanks Seawolf Invitational.
- Most recently, UIU lost to Quincy University on Sept. 9 in five sets.
- Head Coach Aaron Nelson's squad was tabbed eighth in the GLVC Pre-Season Poll.
- A year ago, Upper Iowa was a part of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
- Senior Zoe Semelroth leads the Peacocks with 3.94 points per set and a .360 attack mark. A Second Team All-NSIC selection last year, she ranks fourth in the GLVC in hitting.
- Fellow classmate and outside hitter Emily Kono is slotted eighth in kills (92; 3.54).
- Pacing the Peacocks' offense is Nicole Pozorski. She checks in at sixth in assists (9.56).
