SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist (4-4) will be taking momentum into another in-region matchup on Tuesday when it visits the Central Oklahoma Bronchos (8-1) in Edmond. The contest is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start inside Hamilton Field House.
Last season, the two teams played a thrilling five-setter which UCO won in Shawnee. The previous match in Edmond, during the 2019 season, brought a 3-1 Bison victory. To date, that's the lone win in the six-game series for OBU.
Bison Notes
- Coach Anna Howle's team turned some heads in Topeka, Kansas last weekend winning three of four at the Washburn Invitational.
- OBU swept William Jewell, and MIAA teams Northwest Missouri State and Missouri Western State. The lone loss was to No. 17 Washburn, a match in which OBU led 2-0.
- Seniors Avery Hellmuth and Maci Langford were named to the Invitational's All-Tournament Team afterwards.
- Speaking of Langford, she is tied for 42nd in Division II with a 4.89 digs-per-set average.
- OBU ranks 41st in the country in assists per set (12.15) and 43rd in blocks (2.22).
- The Bison are also the GAC leaders in hitting percentage (.222) and points (16.38).
- Also of note, sophomore Rylee Martin checks in at No. 5 in the GAC in assists (6.33).
- Offensively, Lauren Safrit (2.42 per set) and Jill Leslie (2.33) have led the green and gold in kills.
Bronchos Notes
- UCO is off to an 8-1 start with six of those victories coming by 3-0 counts.
- Last weekend at the Denton Volleyfest, the Bronchos went 4-0 which included sweeps of GAC schools Ouachita and Arkansas-Monticello.
- The Bronchos have one of the best offenses in America. They are third in assists per set (13.94) and seventh in kills (14.69).
- Three different players average at least 3.39 kills per set: Jenna Karp, Addison Wimmer and Sydney Huck.
- Karp, a junior middle blocker, ranks 43rd in D2 in attack percentage at .373.
- Another junior for UCO, Jaedynn Evans, leads the team in digs (103; 5.42 p/s) while Lindsey Houran directs the Bronchos offense with an 8.11 assists-per-set mark.
