Badgers Deal OBU 3-0 Defeat

MOBILE, Ala. – Spring Hill was aided by numerous errors from Oklahoma Baptist on Friday night as the Badgers won 3-0 inside the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.

Key Leaders
  • L Maci Langford: Her 15 digs led the team.
  • OH D'Erricka Frierson: Nearly notched a double-double with 10 kills and nine digs.
  • S Rylee Martin & Abrey Galt: Each tallied 16 assists for the Bison attack.
  • L Mikayla Boyer: Spring Hill's top defender recorded a match-high 22 digs.
First Set
The Bison were sensational offensively in the first. They hit a blistering .548 with no attack errors. Frierson led all players with six kills while Martin and Galt each handed out eight assists. However, four service errors proved costly. An early error sparked a 5-0 run for the Badgers who took an 8-5 advantage. Then another error helped Spring Hill hit another run, this time extending its lead to 13-7. Despite that, OBU rallied. Trailing 19-11, the green and gold pulled to within one, 24-23, after a block from Kenedy Houchin and Jill Leslie. On the ensuing sequence, though, a serve went long and allowed the hosts to win.

Second Set
Competition was tight early, as a Frierson ace had the visitors from Shawnee down 8-7. But the Badgers were able to keep that advantage before the Bison tied things up. Leading 17-13, Spring Hill surrendered four straight to the Bison highlighted by kills from Lauren Safrit and Avery Hellmuth.  That was the last gasp, though, for OBU as the Badgers scored eight of the next 10. OBU's offense wasn't nearly as potent in the second as it connected on a .039 attack percentage.

Third Set
A great start to final stanza had the Bison filled with confidence. They led 8-3 as Jh'Kyah Head had two kills early. That open was short-lived, though. Spring Hill turned on the jets and raced in front, 11-9, after a Bison error. Third-set action was close the rest of the way which brought seven ties and four lead changes. Following back-to-back errors by OBU which tied the set at 15, the Badgers got points from Mia Saavedra and went up 18-15. That would be the final straw for the green and gold as the Badgers eventually won 25-18. There were seven attack errors and three service errors that set for the Bison as well.
