SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist baseball coaches have signed 14 recruits to join the ranks of the green and gold in 2024. Last week, the first batch of players were highlighted.
Here's our second edition with thoughts on each player from the OBU coaches
Chris Cox and
Cody Painter.
Jacob Trombley | Utility | Grove, OK | Pratt Community College
- Redshirted at Pittsburg State before transferring to Pratt
- In 56 games last season, batted .282 with 25 extra-base hits including 12 home runs
- Also drove in 43 RBI and notched 17 stolen bases
"Jacob is a very strong utility player with a lot of pop. He will get opportunities at first base and in the outfield. We are excited to watch him continue to develop at the plate. He has the potential to put up some very good offensive numbers at Bobby Cox Field."
Will Joseph | 1B/Outfield | Las Vegas, NV | Antelope Valley College
- Dealt with injuries in 2023 but in 2022, he batted .349 for Antelope Valley
- During that 2022 campaign, he notched 51 hits, 12 doubles, three homers and 48 RBI
- Posted more walks than strikeouts during his freshman season
"Will is a left-handed hitting first baseman/outfielder that we look to have an immediate impact. We love his swing and believe that he has tremendous potential."
Jake Wellington | Pitcher | Clearwater, KS | Neosho County Community College
- Transfer from Neosho County CC in Chanute, Kansas
- Made 22 appearances over the last two seasons
- Notched three wins and earned 43 strikeouts over 60.2 innings pitched
"Jake is a hard-working right-handed pitcher that threw over 60 innings in two years for Neosho, earning a starting role in his sophomore year. Along with his work ethic and desire to win, Jake is a high-character guy that will make a positive impact on the club on and off the field."
Ayden Wood | Pitcher | Courtice, Ontario, Canada | Southeastern Community College (IA)
- Left-handed pitcher that spent the last two seasons at Southeastern CC in Iowa
- He made 37 appearances and in 31.1 innings pitched tallied an ERA of 3.16
- Registered three saves in 2023 and ended two-year stint with 9.19 Ks per nine innings
"Ayden was a solid left-handed option out of the bullpen for a very good Southeastern Community College team that made a deep run into the NJCAA DII World Series. Ayden's experience in high leverage situations through the postseason will prove big for our pitching staff next season."
