No. 21 Mavericks Deal Bison Opening Loss

MANKATO, Minn. – Minnesota State-Mankato's Allie Williams had two goals and two assists as the Mavericks defeated Oklahoma Baptist 7-0 on Thursday. It was both team's season opener.

Before a melee of goals by the hosts, it was the Bison that nearly found the back of the net first. Newcomers Avril Baccam, Brae Baker and Hali White all fired near Mavericks' keeper Mackenzie Rath. However, one missed wide, another was saved, and White's attempt hit the crossbar.

After those Bison shots, the Mavericks scored three times in a 5:02 span.

Williams scored the first at 11:14 before assisting on the third to teammate Anna Van Wyngarden five minutes later.

Later, White, a freshman and daughter of head coach Mike White, got another on-target attempt but it was saved by Rath. She added another shot in the final seconds of the first half but again, was stopped by MSU's keeper.

Mankato would add three more scores in the second stanza at it out-shot OBU 11-7.

By match's end, Baker and White had combined for five on-goal shots while senior keeper Mia Pendleton saved six shots.

On Saturday, OBU will have another tough game, this time at No. 23 Cedarville (OH).
